Subclass 482 Visa
(Skills in Demand)
The Skills in Demand (SID) visa (subclass 482) is a temporary employer-sponsored visa that allows Australian businesses to hire skilled overseas workers when no suitable Australian worker is available. It replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa in December 2024 and includes three streams, Specialist Skills, Core Skills, and Labour Agreement. Applicants must meet skill, English, and health requirements, and employers must offer a salary that meets Australian market standards for the nominated occupation. The visa generally allows holders to work in Australia for up to four years, include eligible family members, and, in some cases, transition to permanent residency.
1
Step one
Sponsorship: Before an employer can nominate an overseas worker for a visa, they must first apply to become a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS). This is the foundational step in the employer-sponsored visa process and confirms that the business is legally operating in Australia and capable of meeting sponsorship obligations.
2
Step two
Nomination: Once a business has been approved as a Standard Business Sponsor, the next step is to nominate a specific occupation within the organisation that needs to be filled by an overseas worker. The nomination process ensures that the position is genuine, necessary to the business, and offered under fair and lawful employment conditions.
3
Step three
Visa Application: The final step is for the overseas worker to lodge their visa application. This stage focuses on assessing the applicant’s skills, qualifications, English proficiency, character, and health to ensure they meet the requirements for the nominated occupation and visa subclass. The visa application process involves providing detailed evidence, including proof of English language ability, to demonstrate that the applicant is suitably qualified and genuinely intends to work in the nominated position.
Subclass 186 Visa
(Employer Nomination Scheme)
It allows skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer to obtain permanent residency. Applicants must meet the requirements for work experience, age (under 45 years), English proficiency, and health, while employers must demonstrate that the position is needed and complies with market salary standards. In the Visa application you can include eligible family (Partner and Children).

Step one
Nomination: The employer must nominate a specific position within their organisation that they have a need to fill with a skilled overseas worker under the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186). The nomination process ensures that the role is essential to the business, complies with Australian market salary standards, and is offered on fair and lawful employment terms.

Visa Application: The final step is for the overseas worker to lodge their visa application. This stage focuses on assessing the applicant’s skills assessment, work experience, qualifications, English proficiency, character, and health to ensure they meet the requirements for the nominated occupation and visa subclass.
